So, we often get the question, “When is the next SandMark show?” That’s a fair question. Our answer is usually, “We’re working on it.”
You see, the SandMark model is…different.
Traditionally, a performance company puts together a “season” of shows, sends out a flyer, asks you to subscribe. We are not a traditional theatre company.
We only produce projects that we are interested in, committed to, passionate about, not because we’re a performance-based company and we have to put a season together every year, but because the subject matter moves us, speaks to us, is important to us.
We try to stage shows that are audience inclusive, that require more from than audience than just “sitting back and enjoying the show.” We don’t want that. We want you actively involved every step of the way.
We may try to accomplish this by moving the audience to different locations, by staging a show in an actual environment, or blending the audience and actors in such a way as you put you into the action.
We are never going to put on a show for the simple sake of “putting on a show.” We want to bring something to you that in some way makes you feel a little bit changed from when you walked in. We want to produce work that asks questions and stimulates conversation. We want to start a dialogue, not end a debate.
And you are an integral part of all of this. We always ask for your feedback. We do talk-backs after most of our performances and we want to hear what you have to say. As much as we want to challenge and stimulate you, we want you to demand the same from us.
Sometimes it takes us a little longer to put shows together. We cobble together funding. We start our projects from scratch, most often developing an original script. That can take some time.
So we ask you to be patient. We ask that you check back because we will always put updates on our blog and Facebook pages. Most of all, we invite you to be a part of this process to create and present innovative, thought-provoking work that you won’t see anywhere else.
Thank you for the support you have already demonstrated. Thank you for believing in us. We’re excited to bring you our next production. Just as soon as we can.
Lastly and most importantly: we don’t do this to earn a living. We do this because it makes us feel alive.
